Susan Reetz“Paid writer since the age of 9”
I joined the ranks of paid writers when I was in fourth grade. I earned a shiny silver dollar for winning a school poetry contest. Since then I’ve been published in an anthology of national collegiate poets, written a regular column and feature articles for a bimonthly outdoor women’s publication, and produced copy for annual reports, fundraising efforts, brochures and features for other publications. Over the years I’ve worked as a temp, scheduled repairs for an office supply service department, sold cable TV subscriptions and scheduled installations, did community relations for a large non-profit and taught college writing classes.
Of course with Rucinski & Reetz Communication I’ve written innumerable video scripts, penned features for client publications and annual reports, and crafted copy for websites and brochures. I’ve also produced tons of videos and project-managed a variety of print and web projects. I continue to semi-obsessively write short stories and poetry on my own time.
I have a BA and an MA in Communication from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. In 2005 UW – Stevens Point’s Division of Communication selected me as Alumna of the Year Award, and in 2006 D.C. Everest School District Distinguished named me Alumnus of the Year Award. I have been actively involved in the Media Communications Association – International (formerly the International Television Association) at the local and international level for over 15 years, and am a member of the International Documentary Association. I believe in giving back and work to make a positive different in the lives of those around me.
One of the things I love best about the work I do is all the great people I get to meet. Many become more than clients – they become friends. I also enjoy learning about all the different issues, products and companies I write about. I now have a basic understanding of a broad range of topics from welding to insurance to drug treatment. Let’s just say I am a formidable Trivial Pursuit player.
Pamela Rucinski“Asking why – turned into a career!”
I was the kid who never stopped asking WHY. My dad always said, “Someday that curiosity is going to turn into a job.” Back then, I never imagined it would be writing for film, video, television and a thing called the World Wide Web!
Some years later, in a twist of fate, I volunteered to write and produce several film projects for a non-profit organization. After completing the projects, the company hired me to write a promotional video for a large national window company.
Bitten by the creative bug, I spent the next five years writing and producing for some of the largest international corporations in the country including a paper cutter manufacturer in Blackburn, England. (Rush job on location! No PPE required.)
In 1992, I joined a group working primarily in direct mail video fundraising mostly for non-profit associations and organizations. Clients included Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and a budding news television network in Washington D.C. (A precursor to Fox News.)
Juggling travel and a family needed some adjustments so I made the move to start my own company in 1996. Working with a capable business partner, we organized a team of talented professionals we can call upon almost anywhere in the country.
Major international companies we’ve served include: Nestle, Trane, Ingersoll Rand, CIFA and numerous government projects for FEMA, and the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children.
On a personal note, I believe in volunteerism and have served on numerous boards including the United Way, my village board, and eleven years as former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson’s appointee to the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Services Board. Along with my business partner, our company has been invited to do many workshops and presentations on scriptwriting in colleges and business groups.
My favorite hobby is – you guessed it – writing! There are movie scripts, children’s books and an e-book in various stages of production. Also love popping into the social networking sites! See our blog and find us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
